The Hyperfixation Files: Where we deep-dive into the weird and wonderful corners of ADHD brains.
Share
If you have ADHD, you probably know what hyperfixation feels like.
It’s not just “being really into something.”
It’s forgetting to eat, sleep, or make eye contact because your brain has locked onto something like it’s the last meaningful thing in existence.
One day, it’s embroidery.
Next week? It’s ancient sea creatures or buying 14 water bottles to finally become “a hydrated person.”
Welcome to The Hyperfixation Files, a space to celebrate, confess, and laugh about the obsessions we dive into head-first (and abandon with no warning).
My Most Recent Hyperfixation:
Painting the kids’ playroom: the one I’ve been thinking about painting for 13 years.
Did I need to? No.
Did I spend 14 hours researching color palettes (or, let’s be honest, 37 identical-looking shades of grey) until I was blue in the face? Absolutely.
Do I actually use the playroom?
Well… no.
But when all those children are up there with the door shut, it feels like a sacred, HGTV-blessed sanctuary.
Would I hyperfixate on something equally unhinged again?
Without hesitation.
Past Greatest Hits
Deciding I was going to build a deck.
My brother thought I was having a moment.
My father-in-law gently said, "Lynds, that's enough. I know you can do things. Please stop. That is way out of your wheelhouse."
Fair.
Deep dive into Scandinavian sleep culture.
I read blogs, watched documentaries, and convinced myself I’d become a minimalist, candle-lit sleeper.
I changed nothing about my bedtime.
Organizing my digital files.
Spent an entire afternoon perfectly labeling folders and dragging everything into place.
Forgot why I opened my laptop in the first place.
Facts, my friends. True facts.
What It Feels Like:
-
Euphoric and consuming
-
Productive (until it’s not)
-
Very fun
-
Very frustrating when the interest evaporates without warning
You’re Invited:
Want to share your hyperfixation story? I’m collecting guest entries from ADHD adults, teachers, parents, anyone with a brain that fixates hard and fast.
Tell me what you dove into, how long it lasted, what it taught you (if anything), and whether you’d do it again.
Let’s normalize how weird and cool our brains are.
Let’s also laugh a little. Because that Pinterest board for backyard chicken coops? I still have it.
Peace,
Lynny
